Blog Game Thursday: Name That Superstar

As I mentioned yesterday, Thuy and Thanh insisted that I go to a concert with them the night Pam left (when she left the first time). The venue was on the way to the airport, so we got out of the taxi, sent Pam on her way, and fought our way through thousands of Vietnamese people up to the front of the stage.

I was THE ONLY non-Vietnamese person in this crowd. Thuy kept pointing it out.

"Maggie. Look. You are the only American."

Yes, I kept thinking, and not only that!

You can see the crowd in the picture, but I have cut the superstar out of it: incense burning, flowers waving, cameras flashing. On the way into the venue, vendors sold cotton candy and popcorn and pictures.

OK, so the blog game is this: who is the superstar? Appearing in Ho Chi Minh City for four nights in a row, drawing thousands, possibly millions. You all know his name, but I was the only "Western" person in a crowd of thousands. He is on his way through New Zealand, Australia, Europe and then back to North America.

Who could it be?

I am heading to the beach for a long weekend (don't be too jealous, it's been unbearably hot in the city) so you won't know until Monday...

I wanted to cheat so bad . . . just Google a rock star traveling in Viet Nam . . . but, I'm Catholic and guilty so I'll just guess: Rod Stewart.
Super, super jealous that you're going to the beach. On the other hand, I totally understand. One can only stand constant sweat running down your back before needing a break that only the ocean can provide. Have fun!

Since he was just here in Everett, I'm going to go with the awesomeness that is Mr. Barry Manilow.

Using Google is cheating?? Uh oh...

Well, with out 'cheating' I'm going to guess the biggest superstar that I know of that is big everywhere but here: David Hasselhoff.

MY guess was going to also be that phenom that IS Hasselhoff...

now I'll have to think hard all day for a second guess. (ouch)

Elton John? Congratulations on your decision to stay another year!

I am going to have to say Backstreet Boys OR Bret Michaels... this is a hard one!

Art Garfunkle
(and I'm resisting "cheating" on Google to see if he's still alive... 'cause I really don't know)

I'm guessing it's a country star: Clint Black.

I'm obsessing...

I couldn't wait for the answer, so I tried looking it up (aka cheating) tonight. I found this:

Fans of Vanessa Hudgens in Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam are joining together to Demand that Vanessa Hudgens perform in Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam. Chat with other Vanessa Hudgens fans in Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam below and get your friends to join by using the share buttons above. Spread the word by putting a Demand it! widget on your MySpace or blog.

Shall we all demand a widget and get Vanessa to Vietnam? Having recently endured HS Musical III (I thought the Roman numerals added class), I think HCMC would be a GREAT place for her...

Barry Manilow, Rod Steward, David Hasselhoff, Elton John, Backstreet Boys, Art Garfunkle, Clint Black and Vanessa Hudgens.

I think my commenters have very interesting minds.

Before I reveal this mystery, I will give you one more hint. He/she does not have flesh and blood, but does have heart.

Mungo said...

Now, wait a second... In your original post, you stated it was a "he." Now, you're saying it's a "he/she." Must be someone like David Bowie or RuPaul. I was going to say Celine Dion, but went back to your original post and saw the "he." Hmmmm... No flesh and blood, but has heart... WAIT A SECOND! He/she, no flesh and blood, heart...

It's the Scarecrow from Wizard of Oz!

R2D2?
CP3O?

WALL-EEEEEEE?

(got that whine in your head, didn't I? Ha! That's for teasing the answer. I've been waiting DAYS, and NOT waiting on a sandy beach, mind you!)

Barney the dinosaur?

Mungo said...

Yeah, Michelle - Barney is what just popped into my mind as well... Is he still around, though? Must be someone along those lines... The picture of the child on the shoulders, cotton candy and popcorn being sold, not flesh and blood... It's all coming together...

Cecilie said...

Really far fetched, but I am trying anyway. A person with no flesh or blood, but a heart: Leonardo Di Caprio? The only lyrics I can think of that includes a person with no flesh or blood, but with a heart (that goes on), is Celine Dions "My heart will go on".

"....Every night in my dreams
I see you, I feel you
That is how I know you go on

Far across the distance
And spaces between us
You have come to show you go on

Near, far, wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on..." Remember? :-)

Cecilie said...

Ok, I know Leonardo does not sing, but that´s just a minor detail, right....

Brian Bowker said...

Dick Clark?

Marjie said...

This is too much fun. Now my interesting people are getting smarter and smarter. Another hint. HE, astute Mungo, is GREEN.

Mungo said...

It's not easy bein' green...

Kermit the Frog?

Larry the Cucumber?

The Geico Gecko?

Must be Kermit and the Sesame Street gang.

Mungo said...

Actually, Brian still could be correct in guessing Dick Clark.

Brian Bowker said...

I was about to change my guess to Alan Greenspan...

Amy T. said...

Shrek?

Brian Bowker said...

Wait wait... I've got it!!

Ralph Nader!

Mungo said...

Oooooooohhh... good call, Amy T. Shrek.

The Hulk? " Don't make me mad, you won't like me when I'm mad."

I just hate to reveal the answer.
